Southern Cross New Plymouth Hospital is a modern private surgical hospital serving the city and wider region since 1983. As the only private surgical hospital in the city, the hospital features advanced theatres and comfortable patient facilities, with 36 inpatient beds, and a dedicated day-stay facility. The team provides excellent pre- and post-operative nursing care across a wide range of elective surgical services, including Orthopaedic surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Reconstructive and Cosmetic surgery, and General and Endoscopic surgery.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Behind every great hospital is a dedicated cleaning team who play a critical role in patient safety, dignity, and wellbeing. As a Cleaner, you will deliver a consistently high standard of cleaning across both clinical and non-clinical areas of the hospital, including laundry services, working closely with the Admin & Support Services team, Ward and Theatre Managers, and the General Manager. You will follow hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and asset management processes to ensure a safe, high-quality environment, while managing stock and supplies efficiently and contributing to the smooth, cost-effective running of the hospital. 

This role is highly collaborative, requiring positive relationships across Support Services, Hotel Services, clinical teams, and leadership, a commitment to training and team meetings, and flexibility to support effective rostering and business needs — all while bringing care, respect, and attention to detail to everything you do.

This is a permanent position, negotiable between 0.5 – 1 FTE, based in Southern Cross New Plymouth Hospital.

  • Previous cleaning experience (healthcare experience is a bonus, but not essential – we’ll train you)
  • Take pride in doing a job well and notice the small details

  • Have a positive, caring attitude and understand the importance of discretion and respect in a hospital setting
  • Comfortable following processes and safety procedures
