Southern Cross Nursing Scholarships
The Southern Cross Health Trust is comitted to supporting and growing the nursing workforce. In partnership with AUT, we have launched a new scholarship programme to alleviate common challenges nursing students face, including financial strain and wellbeing concerns. AUT's excellent reputation, robust student support systems, and close ties to Southern Cross hospitals make it the ideal partner for this pilot initiative.

Train to be a Registered Nurse Anaesthetic Assistant (RN-AA)
Embark on a transformative journey with our RN-AA programme, designed to empower registered nurses as integral anaesthetic assistants. This training leverages existing nursing expertise, enriching it with advanced skills while fostering a deep commitment to patient-centered care and technical proficiency. With flexible start times, our training offers a seamless pathway, guided by Anaesthetic Technicians and RN-AA mentors.

Committed to developing New Zealand’s surgical nursing workforce, our Nursing Council accredited Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) assesses practice against competencies.

Nurse Entry to Practice (NETP)
The Nurse Entry To Practice (NETP) programme enables nursing graduates to consolidate and enhance their academic and clinical learning in a private surgical setting. A standardised learning programme is delivered across our hospital network.

Training for nurses new to theatre
In a New Zealand first, Southern Cross Healthcare has launched Perioperative Training for nurses new to working in operating theatres. This programme covers admission, anaesthesia, surgery and recovery nursing which is delivered through sequenced AORN modules and videos. We also work with partners to offer fully simulated theatre and lab environments where nurses can practice the skills they learn before entering a theatre. This programme provides quality assurance and supports new to theatre nurses.
