Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF).
Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Theatre team in a modern private surgical environment. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a modern private surgical environment where clinical excellence, teamwork, and patient experience sit at the heart of everything we do.
In this role, you’ll bring your advanced perioperative expertise and sound clinical judgement to deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based care. Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, enrolled nurses, and healthcare assistants, you’ll play a key role in coordinating theatre care, supporting smooth surgical workflows, and achieving outstanding patient outcomes.
Beyond day-to-day clinical care, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to service development, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement projects that help shape the future of our theatres.
You’ll build meaningful, therapeutic relationships with patients and their whānau, while fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative team culture. With a strong focus on safety, quality, and professional standards, you’ll be supported to grow your practice through reflective learning, PDRP, and ongoing development — all while living our values and making a genuine difference.
This is a permanent role, working rostered shifts, with 0.8 – 1.0 FTE.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- A current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate
- Minimum two years’ operating theatre experience, including scrubbing, circulating, and assisting
- A solid perioperative nursing skillset, with orthopaedic experience highly desirable (robotics experience is an advantage)
- A team-focused mindset and the ability to perform confidently in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Excellent communication skills, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
- A commitment to professional growth, ideally enrolled in an NCNZ-approved PDRP
