Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF).
Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Step into the heart of our hospital and become an essential part of our high-performing theatre team as a Perioperative Assistant. In this hands-on role, you’ll help create a seamless surgical experience for our patients — ensuring our operating theatres are fully prepared, efficiently turned around, and ready to deliver outstanding clinical outcomes.
Your day will involve setting up and closing down theatres and gathering specialised equipment for the team. You’ll play a pivotal part in keeping our surgical services running smoothly, using surgeon preference sheets to prep the next day’s surgical lists. This is an exciting opportunity to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where precision, teamwork, and patient-centred care are at the forefront of everything we do.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Proven experience in a healthcare setting (ideally 2+ years), where you’ve contributed to safe, high-quality patient care
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills, comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team
- Highly organised with exceptional time-management skills and the ability to prioritise competing tasks in a busy theatre environment
- Adaptable and flexible, with availability to work rostered shifts of up to 10 hours
- NCEA Level 2 / 6th Form Certificate (or equivalent)
- A Level 3 Healthcare Assistant Certificate is advantageous and highly regarded
