Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is looking for a warm, professional, and highly organised Administration Support person to become the welcoming face of our hospital. 

This is a true front‑of‑house role, ideal for someone who loves being at the centre of activity and takes pride in delivering outstanding first impressions. As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and medical specialists, you’ll play a critical role in creating a calm, friendly, and reassuring environment from the moment people walk through our doors or call the hospital.

Your days will be varied and fast‑paced, balancing reception duties with essential administrative support. You’ll manage a busy reception desk, respond to phone and email enquiries, greet and coordinate visitors, support patient flow, and ensure our reception areas run smoothly and professionally. You’ll also assist with patient documentation, revenue processing, and general administration that supports the wider hospital team. You’ll be trusted to handle sensitive information with care, juggle competing priorities, and work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to ensure every patient experience is seamless and positive.

  • Proven experience in reception, front‑line customer service, or patient-facing roles 
  • A warm, professional, and empathetic communication style — you put people at ease 
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask in a busy environment 
  • Confidence managing phone, email, and in‑person enquiries simultaneously 
  • Experience handling payments, invoicing, or revenue processing is advantageous 
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and learning new digital systems 
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality, privacy requirements, and professional discretion 
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical setting is beneficial but not essential 
  • Knowledge of the Privacy Act and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles is an advantage 
  • Reliable and flexible, with the ability to work rostered hours, including weekends when required
