Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As our National Building Services Engineer, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping the performance, resilience, and future direction of building services across Southern Cross Healthcare’s national hospital network. You’ll ensure our critical infrastructure is designed, operated, maintained, and renewed in a way that minimises disruption and supports exceptional patient care. Bringing a strong strategic lens, you will drive compliance with national and international standards, Southern Cross guidelines, and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) requirements - while influencing how we design and deliver building services across all major projects.
At a national level, you’ll lead strategy and innovation - monitoring global healthcare trends and identifying opportunities to introduce new technologies that enhance performance, sustainability, and efficiency. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you’ll develop robust business cases and cost-benefit analyses (including decarbonisation, lifecycle costs, and ROI), ensuring informed decision-making. You’ll establish clear standards, policies, and technical frameworks, empowering local teams while holding them accountable to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes across our portfolio.
In this role, you’ll act as a trusted technical expert across capital projects and operations - providing strategic design advice, overseeing commissioning, and supporting major CAPEX programmes from concept through to delivery. You’ll partner closely with Property, Facilities, Procurement, and Sustainability teams to drive best practice in asset management, maintenance, and contractor performance, while ensuring commercial viability. With a strong focus on collaboration and continuous improvement, you’ll help future-proof our hospitals - creating safe, efficient, and innovative environments that enable world-class healthcare. This is a full-time permanent position based in our National Support Office based in Auckland CBD.
