Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is on the lookout for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic and highly skilled Theatre team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a modern private surgical environment where teamwork, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient experience are at the centre of everything we do.

In this role, you’ll draw on your advanced perioperative skills and strong clinical judgement to deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based care. Working collaboratively alongside surgeons, anaesthetists, enrolled nurses, and healthcare assistants, you’ll play a pivotal role in coordinating theatre activity, ensuring seamless surgical flow, and achieving outstanding patient outcomes.

Beyond hands-on clinical practice, you’ll have the chance to get involved in service development, quality improvement initiatives, and projects that help shape the future of our theatres. With a strong focus on safety, quality, and professional standards, you’ll be supported to grow your practice through reflective learning, PDRP, and ongoing professional development. You’ll build meaningful, therapeutic relationships with patients and their whānau, while contributing to a positive and supportive team culture. 

This is a 0.9 FTE permanent position, working rostered shifts Monday to Friday.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate 
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in an operating theatre setting, with demonstrated capability in scrubbing, circulating, and assisting 
  • A strong perioperative nursing skill set, with orthopaedic experience highly regarded (robotics experience would be a bonus) 
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach, with confidence working in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment 
  • Excellent communication skills, paired with a proactive and solutions‑focused mindset 
  • A genuine commitment to professional development, and ideally enrolled in an NCNZ‑approved PDRP
