Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Step into the heart of our hospital and join a high-performing theatre team where every day makes a difference. As a Perioperative Assistant, you’ll play a vital, hands-on role in delivering a smooth and exceptional surgical experience for our patients. From preparation to turnaround, you’ll help ensure our operating theatres are perfectly set up, efficiently managed, and always ready to support outstanding clinical care.

No two days will be the same. You’ll be responsible for setting up and closing down theatres, sourcing and preparing specialised equipment, and supporting the team to keep surgical lists running seamlessly. Using surgeon preference sheets, you’ll help prepare for upcoming procedures and ensure everything is in place for the next day’s operating schedule.

This is a permanent, full-time (1 FTE) opportunity based at Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a healthcare environment (ideally 2+ years), supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care
  • A confident and effective communicator, with strong written and verbal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Highly organised with excellent time-management skills, able to prioritise and juggle competing demands in a busy theatre setting
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the availability to work rostered shifts of up to 10 hours
  • NCEA Level 2 / 6th Form Certificate (or equivalent)
  • A Level 3 Healthcare Assistant Certificate is advantageous and will be highly regarded
