Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF).
Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We’re looking for a confident, compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Peri-Anaesthesia team at Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital. You’ll be a key part of each patient’s surgical journey, preparing them for theatre, supporting their recovery from anaesthesia, and ensuring they feel safe, informed, and ready for discharge. Working across Admissions, PACU, and Day Stay, you’ll adapt to operational needs to deliver seamless, patient-centred care.
You’ll thrive in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment, partnering with patients and whānau, medical specialists, and fellow nursing colleagues to achieve excellent outcomes. Comfort with change, confidence using technology, and clear, respectful communication will be key to your success in the role.
Alongside providing safe, culturally responsive care, you’ll support staff orientations, maintain accurate and timely documentation, and contribute to quality and continuous improvement. A strong commitment to health and safety, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable practice is essential.
This is a permanent role based at Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital, offered at 0.8–1.0 FTE (by agreement, depending on your situation).
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate
- A minimum of two years’ experience in peri-anaesthesia nursing with demonstrated practice across Admissions, PACU, and Day Stay units.
- A collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Strong communication skills, paired with a positive, proactive attitude
- Experience in private healthcare is advantageous, but not essential
