Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We’re looking for a passionate Registered Nurse to join our private surgical ward in a full-time role. You’ll support patients across a range of surgical specialties including Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynaecology, and General Surgery, playing a vital part in their journey from admission through to discharge. Working across admissions and the ward, you’ll bring flexibility and a team-first mindset, stepping in where needed to ensure seamless, high-quality care.

Working closely with medical specialists, you’ll help deliver safe, responsive, and culturally respectful care to patients and their whānau, while contributing to a supportive and collaborative team culture. This is a full-time (1 FTE) permanent position, working on a rotating roster across Monday to Sunday.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate 
  • At least 3+ years’ clinical experience, ideally within surgical settings (Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynaecology, or General Surgery)
  • Previous ward experience and the ability to work flexibly across multiple specialties
  • Strong clinical assessment and care coordination skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust with patients, whānau, and colleagues
  • A genuine commitment to delivering high-quality, culturally responsive care
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy, ever-changing environment
  • Previous experience in private healthcare is advantageous but not a requirement
