Nanette - Cultural Advisor of Māori Enhancement at Southern Cross

Nanette, Southern Cross Healthcare Kaiārahi


In her role as Kaiārahi (Cultural Advisor, Māori Enhancement Role), Nanette serves as a becon of Māori culture and values within our organisation working closely with the National Nursing Advisor for Māori Affairs as a valued member of the Nursing Directorate. With over 16 years experience in New Zealand’s public health sector and five years of dedication to Southern Cross Healthcare, Nanette brings a wealth of expertise and passion to her new position.

As well as Kaiārahi, Nanette also assumes the role of Auckland-wide Kaimahi which keeps her close to our patient and whānau experiences.

Nanette’s journey with us has been marked by her unwavering commitment to improving health access for tāngata Māori. Her dedication has been evident in her efforts to enhance staff understanding of te ao Māori and in advising on patient experience through a Māori lens.

As Kaiārahi, Nanette will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Southern Cross Hospitals have the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard top of mind. Through her guidance, we seek to foster our cultural competence and inclusivity, ultimately providing culturally safe and effective services to Māori patients, co-workers, and communities.
