Health & Safety Lead

Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital is a well-equipped private surgical hospital based in central Hamilton, proudly providing a wide range of surgical specialties to the wider Waikato community for many years.

Our hospital has been extensively expanded and upgraded and now incorporates seven fully equipped operating theatres, 40 inpatient beds and a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit. We offer a range of specialties, including orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, spine, and general surgery specialties. 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Lead with a passion for Health and Safety to join our Hamilton team. This is a 0.8 FTE position. We are looking for a natural people magnet – someone who can effortlessly connect with other people.

Skills and knowledge can be taught, but personality and the ability to build relationships are key. If we find someone who brings both, that would be a fantastic bonus.

This role will lead the Health and Safety and Staff Wellbeing Programs within the Hospital and will actively support and coach the H&S representatives. This will include providing technical leadership, expert advice, and practical support to ensure that the hospital health and safety programme is high functioning and supports a culture that demonstrates active participation, leadership and accountability by all people who come to work at Hamilton Hospital.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Desirable Skills and experience

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience with Learning Teams and Human and Operational Performance
  • New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety (Practice) Level 3/tertiary qualification
  • Established and maintains relationships with people, forges useful partnerships with people across business areas, functions and the organisation
  • Has the ability to build trust through consistent actions, values and communication
  • Demonstrated ability to critically appraise information, including data and share with staff on all levels of the organisation.
