Learning and Development Manager
Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest facility in Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network, centrally located in Christchurch. It features ten digital operating theatres, advanced robotic and scanning technologies, and onsite consulting services. The hospital provides comprehensive care through preadmission, day surgery, and inpatient wards, including a high dependency unit. Offering a wide range of elective surgeries—from orthopaedics to bariatrics—it is supported by over 350 highly skilled staff dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As the Learning & Development Manager at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping a culture of excellence, growth, and innovation. You’ll lead the design and delivery of high-impact education initiatives that empower staff, support strategic goals, and build workforce capability. Working closely with Clinical Nurse Educators, you’ll champion inclusive training programmes, drive professional development, and promote Hauora Māori through the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Your leadership will extend across strategic planning, compliance, and continuous improvement—ensuring training is relevant, effective, and future-focused. From coordinating core competencies and emergency preparedness to overseeing programmes like NETP and PDRP, you’ll play a key role in enhancing patient care and positioning the hospital for long-term success. This is a dynamic opportunity to inspire learning, elevate standards, and make a lasting impact across the organisation.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Solid clinical background, ideally with 5+ years in a surgical or theatre setting in the last few years
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in team building, delegation, and decision-making where you can influence
- A Registered Nurse qualification (RGON, RCpN, or BN)
- Postgraduate qualification (or working towards) in education, leadership, or a related field
- Excellent communication, teaching, and problem-solving abilities
- Confident with IT systems and familiar with project management and quality improvement practices
- Passionate about developing, coaching and teaching others whilst driving a culture of continuous learning
