Registered Nurse – Operating Rooms

Southern Cross Wellington Hospital is a modern private surgical facility with integrated specialist consulting services. It includes five operating theatres, day procedure units, advanced diagnostics, and an intensive care unit—enabling care for a wide range of patients, including those undergoing complex elective surgeries. The hospital offers a broad spectrum of clinical services, including Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Colorectal surgery, Gynaecology, Neurophysiology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, and Urology. Established in 1992, the hospital has undergone significant upgrades and is currently expanding to increase surgical capacity and broaden its healthcare offerings in the Wellington region.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Southern Cross Wellington Hospital is looking for experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse’s to join our Theatre team. You’ll apply advanced clinical knowledge and critical thinking to deliver safe, evidence-based, holistic care. You’ll lead and coordinate care alongside enrolled nurses and healthcare assistants, ensuring high standards of documentation, cultural sensitivity, and patient-centred outcomes. Beyond the bedside, you’ll contribute to projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance care delivery and support a collaborative team environment. You’ll build strong, therapeutic relationships with patients and their whānau, while also fostering positive, professional interactions with colleagues and specialists. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate
  • At least 3 years of operating theatre experience (scrubbing, circulating, and assisting)
  • Strong foundation in perioperative nursing, with experience in orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology, urology is a bonus
  • A collaborative spirit and proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Previous experience in private healthcare is an advantage
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally enrolled in an NCNZ-approved PDRP
  • Ability to be flexible and work rostered shifts
