Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF).
Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a seasoned perioperative nurse to step into the role of Clinical Nurse Lead within the Theatre team at Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital. This full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent position is based on Auckland’s North Shore, working in a busy, well-established surgical service with a strong orthopaedic focus.
In this role, you will provide hands-on leadership at the centre of theatre operations, supporting the coordination of daily activity and helping ensure theatre lists run efficiently while delivering safe, high-quality patient care. You’ll work closely with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, using your clinical expertise to guide nursing staff, strengthen team performance, and maintain best practice across a range of procedures.
Beyond day-to-day operations, you’ll contribute to service development through workforce planning, skill mix optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives, while also mentoring and growing team capability. This opportunity is well suited to a confident, approachable leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about achieving excellent outcomes for both patients and clinicians.
This is a full-time 1 FTE permanent role based in our Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital on the North Shore.

- Minimum of 3 years’ post-registration experience in orthopaedic theatre nursing
- Proven ability to lead, support, and positively influence clinical teams
- Strong clinical judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic setting
- A calm, approachable style with a positive, solutions-focused mindset
- Effective communicator who builds strong working relationships across all levels
- Confident using digital systems and able to adapt to new technologies with ease
- Commitment to continuous professional development, with postgraduate study completed or underway
- Passion for quality improvement, patient safety, and excellence in perioperative practice
- PDRP Level 4 (Expert), senior PDRP, or working towards this level
