Southern Cross Brightside Hospital in Epsom, Auckland has 33 in-patient beds and 6 day-stay chairs. Surgical specialities include Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology.
Our hospital features an intermediate care facility, a specialised post-operative ward for patients with medical conditions or surgical issues that require an enhanced level of monitoring and care. The beds are equipped to support invasive monitoring, medical infusions, and a 24-hour monitoring service, with specialised nurses with the knowledge and skills to deliver a more sophisticated level of care as required.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and medical specialists, both in person and over the phone, you will play a key role in delivering a professional, friendly, and welcoming experience. Your calm, customer-focused approach will help create positive interactions and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital.
This is a varied position that may consist of reception, bookings coordination, and administrative support responsibilities. You will undertake a wide range of tasks to support operational efficiency, including but not limited to managing patient documentation, coordinating bookings, responding to phone and email enquiries, maintaining records, and assisting with general administrative activities across the hospital. Whilst ensuring patients are aware of payment requirements and that adequate financial cover is in place for surgical procedures and hospital costs.
Working closely with the wider team, you will provide flexible support where needed, helping to ensure seamless service delivery across multiple functions. This may include liaising with medical specialists’ rooms, assisting with ACC and Affiliated Provider contracts team, coordinating visitors, and contributing to operational initiatives and continuous improvement activities. The ability to balance a variety of responsibilities while maintaining a high standard of customer service will be key to your success.
This is a full-time (1 FTE) fixed-term opportunity for 6 months at Southern Cross Brightside Hospital.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and empathetic approach to interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues
- Financial administration experience, including estimates, invoicing, and confirming funding or payment arrangements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and confidence using spreadsheets and other digital systems
- Experience in a healthcare environment and knowledge of the Privacy Act and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles is desirable
- Adaptable with a willingness to support a variety of operational and administrative functions as required
- Flexible and reliable, with ability to work rostered hours, including weekends if required
