Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest hospital within Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network and easily accessed within central Christchurch. The hospital consists of ten digital operating theatres and features robotic technology with a highly experienced robotic team, advanced digital scanning technologies, and consulting facilities onsite. The hospital provides a first-class preadmission service, admissions services, day surgery and three inpatient wards including a high dependency area.
The hospital offers a wide range of elective surgical services including Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic & Reconstructive, Bariatric, General, and Endoscopic surgery. The hospital employs over 350 highly skilled and trained staff to ensure patients receive high-quality care.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As an Orderly in our Theatre team at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital, you'll be at the heart of supporting our busy perioperative service. In this active, hands-on role, you’ll help keep our theatres running smoothly by transporting patients, moving equipment and beds, managing stock and supplies, removing waste and linen, and ensuring clinical areas are clean, organised and ready for use.
We're looking for someone who enjoys being on the go, takes initiative, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. You'll be a proactive team player who can spot what needs doing and jump in where needed, helping create a seamless experience for both patients and staff. With morning and afternoon shifts across Monday to Friday, this is a varied role that offers no shortage of opportunities to make a real impact every day.
This is a permanent, full-time role from Monday – Friday, based at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital.

- A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working in an active, hands-on environment that involves patient transfers, moving beds and equipment, and being on your feet throughout the day.
- Reliable and conscientious, with a commitment to delivering high-quality support and service.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Flexible and adaptable, with availability to work rostered morning and afternoon shifts, Monday to Friday.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced theatre environment.
- A practical mindset and willingness to support a variety of tasks.
- Previous experience in healthcare or hospital support services is advantageous but not essential.
- An understanding of, and respect for, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, demonstrating manaakitanga and cultural safety in daily interactions.
