“Kia whakapiki ake te hauora o ngai tatou te iwi Māori ara kia whakapiki te Hauora o te katou”
If we raise the health standards for Māori exponentially we will raise the health standards for all.

We are proud to announce that Kaimahi services are now available in five of our hospitals.

Our Kaimahi play a crucial role in ensuring our hospital services are delivered in keeping with Tikanga Best Practice Standards catering to the unique needs of tūroro Māori (patients) and their whānau - ultimately supporting greater health equity through Southern Cross hospitals.

Our first appointed Kaimahi was Eru at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital at the end of 2023. Eru (pictured) hails from beautiful Rotoiti in the Bay of Plenty which is part of the Great Lakes (Rotorua, Rotoiti, Rotoehu and Rotoma). Eru brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having served as a Māori Health Promoter and Kaiwhakahaere (Manager) Hauora Māori for 17 years at the Canterbury District Health Board (Te Whatu Ora) before joining us. As an external contracted cultural advisor, Eru fulfils the role as hospital Kaimahi Māori at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital.
