Meet Sheilagh - a healthcare hero

With an incredible 50 years of nursing passion, Sheilagh’s journey began at age five, donning a nurse’s outfit gifted by her mother and “treating” her teddy bears and pets—a passion that has never faded.

Sheilagh qualified in South Africa as a nurse and midwife, earning honours in Orthopaedic Nursing, and went on to spend nearly 20 years in nursing education, inspiring and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Currently Sheilagh holds the position of Pre-Admissions Nurse at Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital.

Reflecting on her career, Sheilagh celebrates the positive changes she’s witnessed: a more holistic, patient-centred approach to care, innovations in technology, and a focus on partnering with patients throughout their recovery.

For the past 13 years, Sheilagh has been a valued member of the Southern Cross North Harbour team, where she cherishes the supportive culture, strong collaboration, and deep patient relationships.
