Southern Cross Gillies Hospital

Perioperative Assistant

Southern Cross Gillies Hospital, in Epsom, is designed with a focus on short stay surgery and family-centred care. The hospital has four theatres, a purpose-built day-stay facility and 20 in-patient beds with ensuite facilities. A centre of expertise for head and neck surgery and otolaryngology (ENT), it also offers oral and maxillofacial, gynaecological, plastic and reconstructive and general paediatric surgery, backed up by friendly, highly professional nursing teams and systems designed to benefit patients of all ages.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We’re on the lookout for an energetic Perioperative Assistant to join our dynamic theatre team and play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care! This role sits between 0.5 – 1FTE depending on your situation and experience. You’ll be hands-on in keeping our operating rooms humming — setting up and closing down theatres, turning rooms around quickly between procedures, gathering and preparing equipment for surgeons, and supporting patient movement from the ward to theatre. You’ll also help prep the next day’s surgical lists using surgeon preference sheets, ensuring everything runs like clockwork. If you love fast-paced environments, teamwork, and making a real difference to patients on their surgical journey, this is the role for you!

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and maintain efficiency in a fast-paced environment
  • You shine as a communicator – demonstrating confidence and professionalism both written and verbally
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working rostered shifts, supporting the operational needs of the service
  • Completion of NCEA Level 2 / 6th Form Certificate, with a strong foundation to contribute effectively in a healthcare setting
  • Even better if you bring a Level 3 HCA Certificate — that’s a bonus we’d love to see
  • Proven healthcare experience, ideally a minimum of two years, with a demonstrated ability to contribute positively to patient care and team outcomes

Ngā mea ka taea e mātou te tuku I a koe | What we can offer you:

  • Competitive Rewards: Attractive remuneration package and employee referral bonus scheme.
  • Health & Wellbeing: Funded health insurance, a comprehensive wellbeing programme, and generous Christmas/New Year breaks.
