Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital stands as a premier, private elective surgical facility, impressively equipped to cater to a diverse range of medical needs. Over the years, Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital has undergone substantial expansion and enhancement, now featuring eight fully equipped operating theatres, 60 inpatient beds, and a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Are you a skilled and reliable Sterile Services Technician with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for patient safety? Join our collaborative Sterile Services team, where your expertise supports exceptional surgical care behind the scenes.

We have three permanent roles available, ranging from 0.6 FTE to 1.0 FTE, working Monday to Friday across rostered shifts between 7:00am and 8:30pm. Shift start times are staggered to support smooth operations, with the earliest shift beginning at 7:00am and the latest starting at 12:00pm.

You’ll be the behind-the-scenes expert responsible for the complete sterilisation cycle – from decontamination and inspection to testing, assembling, packing, and sterilising reusable medical devices. Your meticulous attention to detail will ensure every surgical instrument and piece of theatre equipment is prepared to the highest standards, supporting safe, seamless procedures and world-class patient outcomes.

You’ll confidently operate advanced sterilisation equipment, maintain strict compliance with AS/NZS 4187 and Southern Cross infection control protocols, and contribute to quality assurance, documentation, and continuous service improvement. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Previous experience in a Sterilising Department with evidence-based competency
  • New Zealand Certificate in Sterilising Technology, Level 3 or 4 is desirable
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance/control and infection prevention standards
  • Skilled across all functional areas of Sterile Supply Services
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced setting
  • Understanding of the mechanical operation of various sterilising equipment
  • Competent computer skills, particularly in MS Windows and related systems
