Hospital facilities

Hospital facilities

Our Wellington hospital opened a purpose-built 6-bedded intensive care unit (ICU) in 2011, enabling the nursing teams to provide services catering for higher-risk patients as well the increasing number of complex elective surgical procedures undertaken in the private sector.

New, innovative operating theatres, procedure rooms and our ICU are the most visible developments, but the entire hospital has undergone a modernisation programme.

Our Specialist Centre building has been upgraded and expanded to accommodate the growing number of consulting surgeons and medical professionals choosing to base themselves at the hospital.

Consulting Centre

Southern Cross' Specialist Centre in Wellington is a multidisciplinary medical centre based on the hospital site. It offers comfortable consulting rooms for use by credentialled practitioners and physicians, and purpose-built day procedure facilities, as well as convenient parking. The centre offers convenient access to other facilities contained within the hospital.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Our Wellington hospital has a modern intensive care unit (ICU), one of a number of investments in new technology, which allows the hospital to provide services for higher-risk patients and for the increasing number of complex elective surgical procedures now performed in the private sector.

The ICU offers high-level patient care, with intensive care specialist cover and a 1:1 patient to nurse ratio. The development of such higher acuity care facilities is supported by appropriate investments in people and training - to deliver a sophisticated level of care, and support after-hours medical cover.
