Radiology specialists, a specialist urological cancer team, and independent credentialled practitioners across a range of medical specialties have access to a purpose-built consulting centre and day procedure facilities. Consulting rooms on our site are used by independent credentialled practitioners offering vascular, gynaecological, gastroenterological, general, orthopaedic, urological and bariatric surgery services.
Specialist imaging services
Our Wellington Specialist Centre includes a specialist radiology practice, operated by Pacific Radiology and offering friendly, professional service and diagnostic excellence. Services offered include x-rays, ultrasound and MRI scanning and bone density scanning.
Brachytherapy services
Advanced specialist services offered on our site include a high-tech procedure that may be an appropriate treatment option for men with early prostate cancer, and the hospital has made significant advances in the treatment of prostate cancer, in co-operation with credentialled practitioners - through its investment in the latest brachytherapy equipment. The Prostate Brachytherapy service has been developed by a group including an experienced radiation oncologist, a urologist and physicist based at Southern Cross' hospital and is a high-tech procedure available where it is judged appropriate.
The advantages of brachytherapy generally outlined by the credentialled practitioners who provide the service include the fact that it typically involves a short hospital stay, is a minimally invasive procedure (not an operation), and offers the patient the opportunity of a relatively early return to usual activities. Brachytherapy may involve relatively few long term side effects, and is typically recognised by health insurance companies, who fund it in a similar way to surgical treatments.

Our Specialist Centre hosts independent credentialled practitioners currently consulting on the site in areas including but not limited to orthopaedic surgery, gastroenterology, endoscopy, general & colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, gynaecology and urology (including prostate brachytherapy).
Our Wellington hospital also draws on the skills and expertise of related health providers in a range of areas to ensure that credentialled practitioners and their patients have access to the services they need. This can include services like radiology, as well as a range of laboratory services delivered by credentialled practitioners within the region. Blood supply services (NZ Blood Service) are accessible within our hospitals, where required. Other services, such as cardiologist consultations and other patient checks and diagnostics, may be provided by third parties visiting our various hospital facilities.
