Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

The Head of Risk and Assurance is a newly created role that will lead the risk, compliance, assurance and investigation functions at Southern Cross Healthcare (SCHL). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer with a direct line to the CEO (Chief Executive) and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC).

A key role is ensuring a proactive approach is taken to risk management in all activities by leading the development and implementation of risk management strategies to identify, mitigate and monitor the operational and strategic risks within an organisation. Risk identification, mitigation, reporting, and related business policies should be aligned to good practice and be cost effective. 

The role is accountable for ensuring SCHL’s reputation, safety and financial position through managing risk and assurance effectively.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • 10+ years of leading large and highly successful teams
  • 10 - 15 years' senior leadership experience including management in a complex operational and service delivery environment, including 5 years' experience in a senior management role relating to audit and/or risk function.
  • Significant experience in transformational environments and demonstrated success of driving major change.
  • Proven ability to challenge status quo and drive continuous improvement.
  • Able to maintain professional and positive relationships at a senior level.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to formulate and focus on the long term and balance short term priorities.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work co-operatively and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Able to sustain a high level of energy and positivity during times of extreme pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
